Thingsware- Home Automation

Thingsware is an Home Automation an application which allows you to control all your smart home devices in one place with a simple. Thingsware is designed for gated community with voice control through Zigbee protocol. The Hardware device supports 40 Relay/switches. Home Automation Appplication. Hardware support 40 relay/switches. 40 devices can connect through Hardware. Mobile app will use for communicating with connected devices (i.e, Light, Fan, TV, etc.) The system should support creation of of users, creation of virtual devices, mapping of virtual devices with physical devices, receive telemetry data from physical devices, assign /map devices with users

Challenge

The Thingsware home Automation have Admin, Web baased App for Create New Clients & tenants, New Device Onbording. Manual Onbording , Bulk and Device template Onboarding. Create Rules & plugins The Mobile App to integrate data from web baseds application show on User Mobile and Control the Devices.

The Above Requirements states- Reserach, Design thinking/Brain Stroming, Wireframimg a for Web & Mobile based App.

  1. Connect Non-IoT based Devices to Smart Home Automation System.
  2. Device control via Mobile App, Remote Configuration
  3. Energy Monotoring to see the the consumption pattern of each devices with total consumption breakup.
  4. Smart home device users need a way to manage and control multiple smart home devices conveniently with their mobile phones.
  5. Energy consumption is most imp information. They only tell us
    a) How much electricity have used ?
    b) How much we have to pay ?
  6. Convering “Rule” module scripting to GUI based for Admin user.
  7. User Managment to assign rights to Guest or New users.
  8. Create Power consumption template based on user power expence value.
  9. Ideation and UX for a mobile Home Automation App, focusing on the real-time monitoring device monitoring,

Power saving most priortize feature as apart off Homer Automation feature. The user is looking for Innovative solution to control the unnecessary consumption as a whole or simply guess which devices are heavy users.

Best solution comes to mind might be buying smart home devices which supports 40 relay/switches tp conncet 40 devices with 2.5 kwh load and enable us to control home appliances remotely and reduce the power usage.

But the problem is that the smart home devices only help in controlling and generating automation which does a big favor but is not enough.

There are no data about monthly spendings, estimated bills, and energy usage reduction tips in such devices. However, Home Energy Monitors connect to your circuit breaker. They allow you to track your energy consumption with much finer detail, Put the ax away and cut your energy consumption .

Goal

Goal of this project is to design an intelligent energy monitoring system, which enables users to track energy usage of any device, control and set up routines for home appliances, get notifications for devices left turned on and view a timeline of daily home activity. With Sweet Home, users can getan insight of their electricity, water and gas bills, while they can pay them with one tap.We believe that by developing an app that allows our users to manage and control their devices from anywhere, we will make their experience more desirable, usable and convenient. We will know this to be true when we see these users use this app over the smart device’s partner app.

Ideation

Once I gained a clearer picture of users, I started preparing paper Sketch. Paper sketchs are got validated throgh Client for the part of Final Design Deliverable. paper Prototype also helps us to know the user task analysis and identifing the usability issues . Through the Iterative Process deisgn fix are made.

Prototype

Once I was satisfied with the screens, I created a clickable prototype on Marvel — This ensured that I had created all the screens to follow a number of different scenarios.

Login Screen

Login scree. user can login with email address and password.

Home screen

Home screen shows all the Device configured. It shows the no. of device under device type.

Add Device Screen

This screen shows a popover to add the new device.

Add Device in Room

This screen shows all the configured device in a room.

Device Pairing

The Device support BLE configured by Pairing code.

Device configuration

This shows the control option of device. This send a telemetry data based on device usage.

Result

Validation by Usability Testing

In order to validate if our solution was measurable easier to use, learn and remember we’ve asked 8 participants , to try to accomplish 4 real-life scenarios. We also shared the Questionner with the B2B user to test its funcationality, navigation and ease of usage.- Questionner

Key Solutions

I managed to create a mobile app which will allow our users to control multiple smart home devices all from one app including some new features that the main competitors do not have such as discovering and buying additional products through the app.
These features should significantly increase the visibility and opportunity to discover new smart home products. This was a great brief and thoroughly enjoyed learning about different benefits and features of different smart home devices on the market today.

Takeways

  • We have used Thingsbord as IOT Framework for HomeAutomation. We learn whole IOT stacks.
  • Do lots of research before getting started, understand the “Thingsbord IOT Framework”, who you are designing for, plan and design according to that.
  • Use existing data such as reading material on web, books and articles to support your design choices and the context of your design
  • Understand your user, which means put yourself in another person’s shoes in order to create products that respond to human needs.

KPI

During the Usability Session, we’ve identified 43 problems. We’ve broken them down into 4 categories.
